Latch Systems - Two Way

Locks and locking systems are crucial for protecting property, land, equipment, and other valuable assets. Two way latch systems are designed specifically for securing larger doors or gates that require latching on two edges. They allow the doors/gates to open either inward or outward and enable locking from either side.

The main parts of the system are the latching mechanism, the locking mechanism, and two knobs (one on each side). These systems use a 'deadbolt' system consisting of two small rods (usually metal) which are driven by a spring.

When the latch is in its 'latched' position, the two small rods are extended and engaged with the frame of the door/gate - this secures it. The latch is unlocked by turning the knob on either side. Once the latch is unlocked, the rods retract, and the door/gate can be opened by pushing or pulling. When the gate/door is closed, the rods are extended, and the latch is re-engaged, again securing the gate/door in place.

Two-way latches are commonly found on gates at trailer parks, residential estates, farms, and open-air car parks. Smaller versions can also be used on cabinets/cupboards. These types of latch systems are usually made from strong materials such as steel, and are often zinc-plated for additional corrosion resistance and durability which is essential as they are often used outside.
