Latch Systems - Strikers & Dove

Striker latch systems are a type of mechanical lock used on doors and other items to keep them securely shut. A striker latch system usually has two main parts, the latch which is a spring-loaded bolt or tongue attached to the door and the striker plate which is a metal plate with an opening that is mounted on the door frame. When the door closes, the latch slides into the opening of the striker plate which secures the door in place. The different types of striker latch are basic spring latches, more secure dead latches, which have an additional pin to prevent tampering, and magnetic latches.

Dovetail latch systems are a type of latching mechanism that are primarily used in woodworking and furniture construction. They are named after the dovetail joint shape as the latch has a tapered, wedge-shaped piece (resembling half of a dovetail joint) and the receiving end has a corresponding tapered slot or groove. They are often used on drawers, cabinet doors, folding tables and boxes. Dovetail latches have a strong, secure connection that can be hidden or incorporated into the design of the item for a clean look. They also usually need precise cutting or routing of the receiving groove and the latch itself is often surface-mounted or mortised into the wood.

As with the striker latch systems, our range of dovetail latches are available in brass, steel or copper. We stock striker and dovetail latches from popular brands such as Weston Body Hardware and Pinet and if your item is in stock, we can offer next working day delivery.
